How Hail Damage Affects Your Roof

Hail is one of the most deceptive forms of roof damage because it rarely leaves an obvious hole. A hailstorm can bruise shingles, knock loose the granules that protect them from UV light, and crack the mat underneath — all without a single visible tear from the ground.

Colorado’s Front Range sees some of the highest hail frequency in the country, which is why we recommend a professional inspection any time a storm drops stones larger than a quarter in your neighborhood, even if your roof looks fine from the driveway.

Hail damage is often invisible from the ground — the real story is written in the granule loss and soft spots you can only find up close.

Signs of Hail Impact to Watch For

Look for random, scattered dents on shingles, soft metallic-sounding dings on vents and flashing, and dented or cracked gutters and downspouts. Circular bruises on asphalt shingles that feel soft when pressed are a classic sign of hail impact.

Metal roofing and skylights often show hail damage more clearly than shingles do, so we always check those surfaces first during a post-storm inspection, along with AC units and any other exposed metal on the property.

Our inspectors chalk-mark every hail hit during an assessment so the damage report is easy for both you and your insurance adjuster to follow.

We had a small leak after a hailstorm and Stormcrest came out the next day. Fixed it fast and explained exactly what caused it.

Great communication throughout the whole project. Would recommend to anyone in the Denver area needing roof work.
