Understanding Your Roofing Warranty

Roofing warranties confuse a lot of homeowners because there are actually two separate warranties covering different things: one from the shingle manufacturer, and one from the contractor who installed the roof.

Knowing the difference matters, because most roof failures are caused by installation error, not defective material, and each warranty covers a different kind of problem.

A manufacturer warranty covers the shingles. A workmanship warranty covers us. You need both to be fully protected.

Manufacturer vs. Workmanship Coverage

Manufacturer warranties cover material defects, like shingles that crack or granules that fail prematurely, and typically last 20 to 50 years depending on the product line. They generally do not cover leaks caused by improper installation.

Our workmanship warranty covers exactly that gap, guaranteeing our installation for up to 10 years so any leak caused by our crew’s work is repaired at no cost to you, separate from whatever the manufacturer covers.

We register every new roof with the manufacturer within a week of completion so the warranty is active and in your name from day one.

I never understood the difference between manufacturer and workmanship coverage until this post. Turns out our old leak would've been covered under workmanship.

Registered our warranty right after the install thanks to this reminder. Took ten minutes and now it's on file if we ever need it.

Asked about transferring the warranty when we sell the house and the team walked me through it clearly, no hidden fine print.
